UNDERCOVER SLUT
London show reviews
UNDERCOVER SLUT London Show Review, 23/12/2006 :
As soon as UNDERCOVER SLUT climbed up onstage, floods of people rushed to get to the front of the stage from their seats. Then, as the sound started, it echoed through everyone's minds as we all felt the beginning of the White Whore Era let it's presence known - pulsating through every surgical flow of blood. Sweat oozed from pores as the masses danced to every beat they heard. 'O' presided over the stage and looked fantastic as he jumped off it and then stood on top of the bar, looking down at a mass of glitter, false eyelashes, aroused eyes and lipstick smiles. Flashes of light came from many angles from the cameras capturing the visuals which were bestowed upon us. The visuals were as amazing as the music, each member of UNDERCOVER SLUT prettier than drugs, and far more beautiful than decadence or vulgarity. The new line-up, consisting of Drag on bass, Fake on drums, and ScarS on guitars were perfect to fill in the gaps which UNDERCOVER SLUT was previously missing... bringing in a whole new atmosphere of iridescence, and adding more onto that dirty glamour image. I was right up at the front dancing, my eyes burning into each band member as they completely took over the stage as well as the audience. Feeling water dripping down me as 'O' poured it into the crowd like the music poured into our ears, I danced until I ached - and when I ached it only made me dance more. When it was over, there was a massive cheer and many screams, but there was also a sense of silence from everyone - no-one really knew what to do for that first minute or so after the music had stopped, as though we were waiting for an encore - but when Camden Rock Café staff jumped onstage to tidy things up, we knew it was over. UNDERCOVER SLUT got off to return to their drinks and for lots of photos with people. Everyone wanted more, and so all are currently waiting in anticipation for the White Whores to step on UK grounds once again. Definitely one of my favourite gigs in a long long while.

The REAL Nightmare Before Christmas
UNDERCOVER SLUT + ToYBoX + Livid = One hell of a fukkkin' show !
Bit of a mixed atmosphere in the Camden Rock Café on December 23rd - a lot of different reasons for showing up - the people, it was their staple bar, and obviously, the bands. By the end of the night, I'd imagine a lot of them now are gonna move to France.
Livid were pretty unknown - Sleaze Rock with a hint of Goth; what The Darkness might have been like, had they been any good with different influences. A luke warm reception, due mostly to not that many people having turned up by this point.
ToYBoX - by the time this deranged foursome made it onto the stage, the crowd had certainly filled out and were waiting for something spectacular - they fukkkin' got it. Bass like a dying hearthrob, guitars like a real screaming banshee aircrew, drums just plain noise pollution and vocals like a 6-year-old raped on acid. By the end, everyone was dancing and vocals/bass Alice made one of the more successful leaps into the crowd I've seen in such a venue.
UNDERCOVER SLUT - when I saw UNDERCOVER SLUT for the first time at the Underworld, 13 months previously, I thought they were one of the best and original acts in the scene today. By the end of The REAL Nightmare Before Christmas, I fukkkin' knew it. Opening with the killer track "Darling Darling", everyone instantly got into thing and those who hadn't known the mighty SLUT before that night got the message straight away: we were about to get audially raped by a beautiful gang of French psychopaths and love it. Jumping straight into "Ecstasia In Our Enema", afterwards, the playing and singing style only increased in sultry violence and by the time "narcOtics/cOsmetics" came along, everyone there had decided which member to dream of fukking, all hands grabbing for 'O' as he made his way through the crowd to tell us all that "misery masks for broken hearts, my messy world's falling apart" from atop the bar. What I may love both about this band while live is that, not only are all the songs brilliantly played, but there's a million times the energy of the already highly energetic recordings - the vocals seem more distorted and abusive, the instruments seem to have been designed solely to be destroyed, but with a great fukkkin' riff played on them at the same time and the songs themselves come one after the other with basically no intervention - there's no stopping for breath allowed with this band and it really does give the feeling of the best sex of your life. All too soon, "JimJonesWasSoFUCKINGRight" attacked our ears and UNDERCOVER SLUT decided it was time to go - a brilliant outro, with a wave of distortion we were all hoping for and everyone were desperate for more. "COME BACK SOON" was definitely in the air.
So, any disappointments? I guess two - the first, no "Daddy's Little CUNT" but oh well - can't have 'em all every time. The second? UNDERCOVER SLUT were so fukkkin' good, it made the time go by as though theirs was the shortest set.
Seriously guys, don't wait another year to come back to London - you just gained even more hardcore fans.
